Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Reverse Automatic Braking (RAB) system ON/OFF setting

In the Subaru Ascent, when the select lever is moved into the "R" (Reverse) position, you gain access to customizable settings for the Reverse Automatic Braking (RAB) system directly through the center information display. This allows the driver to conveniently enable or disable key safety functions depending on driving conditions and personal preference.

  1. ON setting key of Automatic Braking function
  2. OFF setting key of Automatic Braking function
  3. ON setting key of the Sonar Audible Alarm function
  4. OFF setting key of the Sonar Audible Alarm function

When the ON icon is displayed on the screen, it indicates that the selected feature in your Subaru Ascent is currently active and functioning. To deactivate it, simply press and hold the ON key until the system switches to OFF mode.

Conversely, if the OFF icon is shown, the feature is disabled. Pressing and holding the OFF key will reactivate the system and restore its functionality within the Subaru Ascent safety suite.

Whenever either the Automatic Braking function or the Sonar Audible Alarm is turned OFF, the system will clearly notify the driver by illuminating the corresponding indicators on the display.

Subaru Ascent RAB OFF and sonar alarm OFF indicator icons

  1. Sonar Audible Alarm OFF indicator
  2. RAB OFF indicator

These indicators will automatically turn off again once the respective function is re-enabled, ensuring that the driver always has up-to-date status information for the Subaru Ascent safety systems.

NOTE

  • If the system settings cannot be adjusted, the ON/OFF keys will appear grayed out on the display, indicating temporary unavailability.
  • This may occur if the Reverse Automatic Braking (RAB) system in the Subaru Ascent detects a malfunction. In such cases, turn the ignition switch OFF and then back ON to attempt a reset. If the issue persists, it is recommended to contact a SUBARU dealer for professional diagnosis.
  • The Subaru Ascent retains the RAB ON/OFF setting even after the ignition is turned off. Once the vehicle is restarted, the system will return to the previously selected configuration.
  • Unlike the RAB setting, the Sonar Audible Alarm setting is not stored. Each time the Subaru Ascent is restarted, this function automatically returns to the ON state for safety reasons.

Additionally, the following settings can also be configured through the center information display to further personalize the Subaru Ascent driving experience.

  • Warning Volume
  • Sonar Audible Alarm
