Subaru Ascent access key fob used for remote engine start and control
Access key fob

In the Subaru Ascent, the access key fob can also function as a remote engine start transmitter, allowing convenient control of the engine from outside the vehicle. By using the lock button in a specific sequence, the engine can be started or stopped remotely.

Before starting the engine

Before activating the remote engine start system in the Subaru Ascent, verify that all required conditions are met to ensure safe and proper operation.

  • The select lever is positioned in "P".
  • All doors, including the rear gate, are fully closed.
  • The engine hood is securely closed.
  • The push-button ignition switch is in the "OFF" position.

When starting the engine

To start the Subaru Ascent engine using the remote start function via the key fob, perform the following sequence precisely.

1. Press the lock button briefly once. The hazard lights will flash once and the keyless buzzer will chirp to confirm the signal.

2. Within 2 seconds, press the lock button briefly again. The Subaru Ascent will respond with another flash and chirp, confirming the second input.

3. Immediately after the second press, press and hold the lock button. The hazard warning flashers will flash three times and the horn will sound once.

4. After approximately 3 seconds, release the button. The Subaru Ascent engine will start if all safety conditions are satisfied.

When stopping the engine

To stop the Subaru Ascent engine remotely, press and hold the lock button on the key fob. The system will confirm shutdown with visual and audible signals.
