1. Unlock the Subaru Ascent using the remote keyless entry system.
NOTE
If the Subaru Ascent is unlocked manually with a physical key while the alarm system is armed, the alarm will activate and the engine will stop. To deactivate the alarm, perform one of the following actions.
- Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position.
- Press any button on the remote keyless entry transmitter.
2. Enter the Subaru Ascent. Opening a door or the rear gate will automatically shut down the engine.
3. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "START" position to restart the engine normally.
Entering the vehicle while it is running via remote start (models with "keyless access with push-button start system")
1. Unlock the Subaru Ascent using the keyless access system or remote entry controls.
NOTE
If the Subaru Ascent is unlocked manually while the alarm system is active, the alarm will trigger and the engine will shut down. To cancel the alarm, follow one of these steps.
- Turn the push-button ignition switch to the "ACC" or "ON" position.
- Press any button on the access key fob.
2. Enter the Subaru Ascent. If the access key fob is detected inside the vehicle, the engine will continue running.
3. Press the push-button ignition switch once while pressing the brake pedal. This action transfers control from remote start to normal operation. The fob will flash and beep three times, indicating that the remote start mode has been disengaged.
Entering the vehicle following remote engine start shutdown
In the Subaru Ascent, opening the vehicle shortly after remote engine shutdown may trigger the alarm system. This is a normal protective response of the vehicle’s security system.
Pre-heating or pre-cooling the interior of the vehicle
Once the Subaru Ascent engine is started remotely, the climate control system automatically activates. The system will heat or cool the interior to approximately 72°F (22°C), while automatically adjusting airflow and fan speed for optimal comfort.
Remote transmitter program (Remote engine starter transceiver)
The Subaru Ascent allows programming of additional remote transmitters if needed. Up to eight transmitters can be registered in the system.
1. Open the driver’s door and keep it open throughout the entire programming process.
2. Cycle the ignition switch in the following sequence: "ON" → "OFF" → "ON" → "OFF" → "ON" → "OFF" → "ON", then leave it in the "ON" position.
3. The Subaru Ascent will flash exterior lights and sound the horn three times, indicating that the system has entered transmitter learning mode.
4. Press and release the "
"
button on the transmitter to be programmed.
5. The system will confirm successful programming with a single flash of the lights and one horn beep.
The transmitter itself will also flash once to indicate successful registration.
6. Repeat step 5 for any additional Subaru Ascent transmitters.
7. The system will exit programming mode when the ignition is turned to "OFF", the driver’s door is closed, or after approximately 2 minutes.
The Subaru Ascent remote start system with keyless access provides enhanced convenience, seamless control, and improved comfort, especially in varying weather conditions, while maintaining high safety and security standards.
