WARNING

  • Battery fluid contains highly corrosive SULFURIC ACID.

    Avoid any contact with eyes, skin, clothing, or painted surfaces of your Subaru Ascent, as it can cause severe injury and damage.

    If battery fluid comes into contact with your body, immediately rinse the affected area thoroughly with clean water. In case of eye contact, seek urgent medical attention without delay.

    If the fluid is accidentally ingested, drink a large quantity of water or milk immediately and obtain emergency medical assistance.

    Always keep children and bystanders at a safe distance from the battery area when working on your Subaru Ascent.

  • The gases emitted by a battery are extremely explosive. Never bring open flames, sparks, or lit cigarettes near the battery during jump starting.
  • Do not attempt to jump start a frozen battery under any circumstances. A frozen battery may rupture or explode when current is applied.
  • Whenever working near a battery, always wear proper eye protection and remove all metallic accessories such as rings, bracelets, or watches to prevent accidental short circuits.
  • Ensure that jumper cables and their clamps are in good condition, with intact insulation and no visible damage.

    Do not attempt jump starting unless you are using properly maintained and reliable cables suitable for your Subaru Ascent.

  • An operating engine presents potential hazards.

    Keep hands, fingers, loose clothing, tools, and hair away from moving engine components such as cooling fans and drive belts.

    For additional safety, remove items like rings, watches, and ties before starting the procedure.

  • Jump starting your Subaru Ascent can be dangerous if performed incorrectly. If you are uncertain about any step, it is strongly recommended to seek assistance from a qualified technician.

  1. Fuse

WARNING

Never connect jumper cables to a fuse located near the battery terminal. Doing so may damage the fuse and electrical system of your Subaru Ascent.

When your Subaru Ascent fails to start due to a discharged battery, it can be restarted using an external power source, commonly referred to as a booster battery, connected via jumper cables.

How to jump start

  2. Strut mounting nut

1. Confirm that the booster battery is a 12-volt battery and that its negative terminal is properly grounded before connecting it to your Subaru Ascent.

2. If the booster battery is installed in another vehicle, ensure that the two vehicles do not come into physical contact to avoid electrical hazards.

3. Switch off all unnecessary electrical devices, including lights, audio systems, and climate controls, to reduce load during the jump starting process.

4. Connect the jumper cables precisely in the sequence illustrated to prevent electrical damage.

  1. Attach one end of the first jumper cable to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery in your Subaru Ascent.
  2. Connect the opposite end of this cable to the positive (+) terminal of the booster battery.
  3. Attach one end of the second cable to the negative (−) terminal of the booster battery.
  4. Secure the remaining end of the cable to a solid, unpainted metal point such as the strut mounting nut on the Subaru Ascent with the discharged battery.

Ensure that all cables are positioned safely away from moving engine parts and that the clamps do not accidentally touch other metal components.

5. Start the engine of the vehicle equipped with the booster battery and allow it to run at a moderate speed. Then attempt to start the engine of your Subaru Ascent.

6. Once the engine starts successfully, disconnect the jumper cables carefully in the exact reverse order of connection to avoid sparks or electrical issues.

For optimal reliability, it is advisable to have the battery of your Subaru Ascent inspected after jump starting, as a discharged battery may indicate aging or underlying electrical issues.
