Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Operation

NOTE

  • After closing, the Subaru Ascent rear gate remains unlocked by default. Always ensure that the rear gate is properly locked before leaving the vehicle to maintain security.
  • If the Subaru Ascent rear gate does not respond to the operations described below, the system will emit three short electronic beeps (beep, beep, beep) to indicate that the command cannot be executed.

To open the rear gate: Press and hold the Subaru Ascent power rear gate button while the rear gate is fully closed. The system will automatically raise the rear gate.

Once activated, the Subaru Ascent will provide confirmation via electronic chirps and hazard warning flashers:

  • Using the instrument panel button: two chirps and two flashes.
  • Using the Subaru Ascent key fob or transmitter: four chirps and four flashes.

NOTE

  • If the Subaru Ascent rear gate does not open using the instrument panel button, first unlock the vehicle using keyless access or the remote entry system.

After unlocking, the power rear gate button will function normally.

  • The default Subaru Ascent configuration for the " Subaru Ascent key fob rear gate button icon configuration" button requires a press-and-hold action. This setting can be customized at a SUBARU dealer to double-press or disabled entirely.

To pause the opening rear gate: While the Subaru Ascent rear gate is opening, briefly press the power rear gate button to pause movement. The system will confirm with two chirps and two flashes.

Pressing the button again will reverse the movement, causing the Subaru Ascent rear gate to close.

Similarly, if the rear gate is closing, a brief press will reverse the direction and reopen it.

A brief press during closing will reverse the motion and reopen the rear gate.

NOTE

The configuration of the " Subaru Ascent rear gate control button customization icon" button on the Subaru Ascent key fob can also be adjusted by a SUBARU dealer to suit user preferences.
