NOTE

• In the Subaru Ascent, the push-button ignition system will function only when the access key fob is detected within the effective operating range of the built-in antennas inside the vehicle.
• Even if the access key fob is positioned outside the Subaru Ascent, placing it too close to a window or glass surface may still allow the system to switch power or start the engine.
• Avoid leaving the access key fob in the following locations inside the Subaru Ascent, as it may interfere with system operation or cause incorrect warnings or lack of alerts when needed.
  • On the instrument panel
  • On the floor area
  • Inside the glove compartment
  • Within door storage pockets
  • On the rear seats
  • In the cargo area
• If the access key fob battery in your Subaru Ascent is depleted, follow the emergency start procedure described in the relevant section. It is strongly recommended to replace the battery as soon as possible to maintain reliable system performance.

In the Subaru Ascent, the vehicle power mode changes each time the push-button ignition switch is pressed, allowing intuitive control of the vehicle’s electrical systems.

1. Ensure that you are carrying the access key fob and are properly seated in the driver’s seat of your Subaru Ascent.

2. Move the select lever to the "P" (Park) or "N" (Neutral) position.

3. Press the push-button ignition switch without pressing the brake pedal.

Each press cycles the system through the sequence: "OFF" → "ACC" → "ON" → "OFF". When the Subaru Ascent is in "ACC" or "ON" mode while the engine is not running, the indicator light on the push-button ignition switch will illuminate in orange.

CAUTION

• Leaving the Subaru Ascent push-button ignition switch in the "ON" or "ACC" position for extended periods without the engine running may result in battery discharge.
• Prevent liquids such as water, coffee, or other beverages from spilling onto the push-button ignition switch, as this may lead to system malfunction.
• Do not operate the push-button ignition switch with dirty or oily hands, as contaminants may affect proper functionality.
• If the push-button ignition switch in your Subaru Ascent does not operate smoothly, discontinue use immediately and consult an authorized SUBARU dealer.
• If the illumination of the push-button ignition switch fails to activate when expected, have the Subaru Ascent inspected by a qualified technician.
• After prolonged exposure to sunlight, the surface of the push-button ignition switch may become hot. Exercise caution to avoid burns.

NOTE

• Always press the push-button ignition switch in the Subaru Ascent firmly and completely to ensure proper activation.
• Quick or incomplete presses may prevent the system from switching power modes correctly.
• If the indicator light flashes green when pressing the push-button ignition switch, the steering wheel is locked. To unlock it, gently turn the steering wheel left and right while pressing the switch.

Battery drainage reduction function

The Subaru Ascent is equipped with a battery protection feature. If the ignition remains in the "ACC" position for approximately 20 minutes, or in the "ON" position (with the engine off) for about one hour, the system will automatically switch to "OFF" to help prevent battery depletion. This function is active when the select lever is in the "P" position.
