WARNING
- Keep all body parts clear when operating the Subaru Ascent reverse function. If the system fails to react properly, serious injury may occur.
- The Subaru Ascent reverse function may not activate if an object is trapped just before the rear gate fully closes. Always exercise caution.
- Depending on the shape or position of an object, the reverse function may not respond as expected. Always keep hands and objects clear of the closing area.
CAUTION
- If the Subaru Ascent reverse function is triggered three consecutive
times, the automatic operation will be canceled and the rear gate may stop unexpectedly.
In such cases, the rear gate may still move slightly depending on its position. Ensure no one is near the rear gate to prevent injury.
- Avoid damaging the Subaru Ascent touch sensors, as this may disable the reverse function entirely.
If the Subaru Ascent rear gate encounters an obstacle while opening or closing, the system will emit three warning beeps and react as follows:
When opening: The rear gate will automatically reverse and begin closing.
When closing: The rear gate will automatically reverse and reopen.

- Touch sensors
The Subaru Ascent touch sensors are located on both sides of the rear gate. If they detect contact with fingers, cargo, or other objects during closing, the system will immediately reverse direction to prevent injury.
NOTE
When activated, the Subaru Ascent reverse function will open the rear gate either fully or to the stored memory height.
Rear gate auto closure function
If the Subaru Ascent rear gate is fully open and begins to lower due to external forces such as snow weight, the system will automatically apply braking force to prevent sudden or rapid closure.
NOTE
- Before using the Subaru Ascent power rear gate, remove any accumulated snow or debris.
- If the rear gate is manually pushed down immediately after automatic opening, the Subaru Ascent system may interpret this as a rapid closure and activate the protective braking function. This behavior is normal.
Selecting audible signal operation
The Subaru Ascent power rear gate emits an electronic chirp before operation to alert nearby individuals.
This audible signal can be disabled via the center information display (for models with keyless access) or adjusted by a SUBARU dealer.
The Subaru Ascent audible signal settings are shared with the remote keyless entry system and keyless access system for consistent user experience.
Initialization of power rear gate
If the Subaru Ascent detects a malfunction during rear gate operation, it will stop automatically and emit a warning chirp. In such cases, the system must be reinitialized.
If the power rear gate is closed

1. Press and hold the Subaru Ascent rear gate opener switch for approximately 5 seconds until it unlocks, then lift the rear gate.
2. Pull the rear gate down until it begins closing automatically. Once fully closed, the system will reset.
3. Operate the Subaru Ascent rear gate to verify correct functionality.
If the power rear gate is opened
1. Pull down the Subaru Ascent rear gate until it begins automatic closing. The system will reset after full closure.
If the rear gate does not close completely, press and hold the opener button for approximately 5 seconds and manually assist closing.
2. Test the Subaru Ascent power rear gate to confirm proper operation.
CAUTION
If the Subaru Ascent power rear gate continues to malfunction, have the system inspected by an authorized SUBARU dealer to ensure safe and reliable operation.
The Subaru Ascent rear gate system combines advanced automation, safety features, and user-friendly controls to provide maximum convenience and protection in everyday use.
