Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Disabling keyless access function

WARNING

If you use an implanted pacemaker or defibrillator, it is strongly recommended to disable the Subaru Ascent keyless access function by following the procedure described in the section "By operating the driver's door". Avoid disabling the system via the access key fob, as radio waves emitted by the Subaru Ascent transmitter antennas may interfere with the proper operation of medical devices.

When the Subaru Ascent will not be used for an extended period, or if you prefer to manually control access, the keyless access system can be safely disabled to conserve battery life and enhance control over vehicle access.

NOTE

  • If the Subaru Ascent access key fob remains inside or near the vehicle, the system may continuously communicate with the car, leading to unnecessary battery drain for both the vehicle and the key fob.
  • The remote keyless entry system (button-based locking and unlocking) remains functional even when the keyless access feature is disabled.
  • To start the engine while the Subaru Ascent keyless access function is disabled, refer to the appropriate "Starting engine" procedure.

Disabling functions

By operating the access key fob

To disable the Subaru Ascent keyless access function using the access key fob, you must first register a PIN code for the PIN Code Access system. For detailed instructions, refer to the section "Unlock using PIN Code Access".

1. Open the driver's door.

2. Rotate the lock lever forward.

3. Press and hold the " Subaru Ascent lock button icon" button and " Subaru Ascent unlock button icon" button on the access key fob simultaneously for more than 5 seconds.

A confirmation chirp will sound, indicating that the Subaru Ascent keyless access function has been successfully disabled.

Alternatively, the Subaru Ascent keyless access function can be disabled directly using the driver's door controls by following the specified sequence of actions.

Once completed correctly, an audible chirp will confirm that the Subaru Ascent system has been deactivated.

NOTE

During steps 4 and 6, ensure the power door lock switch is pressed firmly. Incomplete or weak input may prevent the Subaru Ascent system from disabling correctly.

Enabling functions

To reactivate the Subaru Ascent keyless access function, repeat the same procedure used to disable it. A confirmation chirp will indicate that the system is enabled again.

NOTE

  • The Subaru Ascent keyless access system must be re-enabled using the same method by which it was disabled. For example, if disabled via the driver's door, it cannot be reactivated using the access key fob.
  • If you are unsure which method was used, press the push-button ignition switch:
    • If no chirp is heard, the system was disabled via the driver's door.
    • If a chirp is heard, the system was disabled using the access key fob.
