Subaru Ascent 2018-2026 Owner's Manual: Security indicator light

The security indicator light in the Subaru Ascent provides important information regarding the status of both the alarm system and the immobilizer system, helping to ensure vehicle security at all times.

Alarm system

This indicator blinks to inform the driver that the alarm system of the Subaru Ascent is active and functioning. For detailed operation, refer to the "Alarm system" section in the manual.

Immobilizer system

The security indicator light in the Subaru Ascent will begin flashing under specific conditions related to the immobilizer system.

For models with "keyless access with push-button start system":

  • The indicator starts blinking immediately after the push-button ignition switch is turned to the "OFF" position.
  • It also begins flashing when the driver's door is opened or closed while the ignition is in the "ON" or "ACC" position and the engine is not running.

In situations where an unauthorized key is used with the Subaru Ascent — such as an unregistered key or one with a mismatched ID — the ignition will not switch to the "ON" position, and the security indicator light will continue blinking as a warning.

For models without "keyless access with push-button start system":

  • The indicator begins blinking immediately after the key is removed from the ignition.
  • It also starts blinking approximately 60 seconds after the ignition switch is moved from "ON" to either "ACC" or "LOCK".

If the security indicator light in your Subaru Ascent does not behave as described in these conditions, it may indicate a malfunction within the immobilizer system. In such cases, contact your SUBARU dealer immediately for diagnosis and repair.

If an unauthorized key (for example, an unregistered duplicate) is used to start the Subaru Ascent, the security indicator light will illuminate continuously. For additional information, refer to the "Immobilizer" section.

NOTE

  • The security indicator light in the Subaru Ascent remains off under certain normal conditions, indicating that the key ID has been successfully verified and the immobilizer system is deactivated.

Models with "keyless access with push-button start system":

    • While the engine is running.
    • When the ignition is in the "ON" or "ACC" position and the driver's door has not been opened or closed.

Models without "keyless access with push-button start system":

    • While the engine is running.
    • When the ignition switch is in the "ON" position.
    • For approximately 60 seconds after switching from "ON" to "ACC" or "LOCK".
  • Even if irregular flashing occurs, this does not necessarily affect the immobilizer functionality in the Subaru Ascent, but it is still advisable to monitor the system and seek inspection if unusual behavior persists.

Proper understanding of keyless access alerts and security indicators in the Subaru Ascent helps prevent accidental misuse, enhances anti-theft protection, and ensures reliable operation of both ignition and locking systems in everyday driving situations.
