Access key warning indicator
In the Subaru Ascent, the keyless access with push-button start system is designed to enhance both convenience and security. The system emits warning chimes and activates the access key warning indicator on the combination meter to alert the driver of incorrect operations or potential risks. These notifications help prevent improper use and provide an additional layer of protection against unauthorized access or theft.
Whenever a warning chime is heard or the indicator begins to flash in your Subaru Ascent, it is important to immediately assess the situation and take the appropriate corrective action to ensure safe vehicle operation.
WARNING
Never attempt to drive the Subaru Ascent if the indicator on the push-button ignition switch is flashing green during engine start. This condition indicates that the steering lock has not been released, which can severely restrict steering control and may lead to a serious accident with potential injury or fatal consequences.
CAUTION
- If you attempt to restart the Subaru Ascent and the operation indicator on the push-button ignition switch continues flashing green, this may signal a malfunction of the steering lock system. Contact your SUBARU dealer as soon as possible for inspection and repair.
- If the operation indicator flashes orange, this indicates a different type of system issue within the Subaru Ascent. In this case, immediate inspection by a SUBARU dealer is required to prevent further complications.
CAUTION
- If the green flashing indicator persists after restarting your Subaru Ascent, it is likely that the steering lock mechanism is not functioning correctly. Prompt professional diagnosis is strongly recommended.
- An orange flashing indicator on the push-button ignition switch always requires immediate attention. Do not ignore this warning in your Subaru Ascent, as it may indicate a critical system fault.
NOTE
- Even when the access key fob is inside the Subaru Ascent and within its normal operating range, warnings related to engine start may still occur depending on environmental conditions or the status of the key fob battery.
- If the access key fob is removed from the vehicle through an open window, the Subaru Ascent may not provide a takeout warning for the key fob, which could increase the risk of leaving the key behind unintentionally.

CAUTION
If any of the following warning conditions occur in your Subaru Ascent, take appropriate action even if the access key warning indicator does not appear on the display.
